Major life-changing update!

I got the PhD!

After all the drama, the external has (presumably grudgingly) agreed to pass the thesis. No adjudicator, no even-more-drawn-out waiting around, just: done.

I got the official confirmation a few hours before flying out to Vancouver Island (gorgeous scenery, way too much of an aunt-I-barely-know-but-alas-know-much-better-now), so my time's been split between spending time with the aunt, and taking nice long (8-10k) walks with Mum to kind of avoid her sister. Family, eh.

So I haven't had time to enjoy myself re: having a PhD, but gosh I've been getting a lot more exercise than usual.

And I got the PhD!

I literally was doing a little happy dance (in my chair - always stay dignified) and now have a big smile plastered over my face. I'km so happy for you, and you totally deserve it. Though it would have been nice if somewhere in that process somebody had come down on that external guy like a ton of bricks and there had been some consequences for that guy - like never being allowed near students ever again, that seems fair - but mostly just happy. You rock, PhD lady, you totalle rock!

On pictures Vancouver island looks stunning, always wanted to go there (and Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia & Newfoundland - I love the self-containedness of islands) and 10 km walks in that beautiful nature with your Mum sound great, even if the reason for them to happen in the first place is slilghtly annoying. Hope the wheather matches you mood and you're enjoying yourself and relaxing....

And you got a PhD!

Aw, thank you!! I think the main consequence for this guy will be never being invited to examine a thesis at my uni again, as well as my supervisor telling her network about the experience, which might keep him from being invited to examine at a dozen other universities.

But that's his damage. :D I'm DONE!

I can confirm that the Pacific coast of Vancouver Island is stunning - we finished our time there with a side trip to the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, and it's highly recommended. The drive out is a bit harrowing (twisty mountain roads!) so I'd recommend one of the coach buses, or flying in on a small airline, or taking the seasonal ferry from Port Alberni round the coast. (I do not recommend Nanaimo - not that pretty, wind blows the smell of a nearby paper mill over the town. There are better places. :D)

And, I got the PhD! Whee!!

Thank you! It's been an annoying year, but the outcome is worth it. :D
